Jim began his career in 1986 after graduating from York University and Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts and Accounting Degree. Jim obtained his CA designation in 1990, and his CFP designation in 1999.
Jim moved from the assurance practice side to full time tax, and has over 20 years of experience as a Tax Specialist working for a number of mid-sized accounting firms, as a Tax Manager, Principal and Partner.
Jim joined Williams & Partners in 2012 as a Tax Principal. His focus is on owner-managed businesses, concentrating on providing tax minimization strategies for mergers and acquisitions, shareholders and individuals. These strategies include income and capital gain splitting strategies using family trusts and jurisdiction planning, partnership and real estate corporate structure planning and reorganizations, estate planning, and syndications and structures.
Jim deals with CRA audits, issues, and has been involved in international planning structures in dealing with in-bound and out-bound investments, and compliance for U.S. expatriates living in Canada.
Jim also has SR&ED experience in both the technical write up and accounting phases, and in dealing with CRA audits.
